In a heartwarming display of support and compassion, Sahar Services recently hosted Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea to raise funds and awareness for the Cancer Council, an organisation at the forefront of cancer research, support, and advocacy. Led by Grace Eu, General Manager, and joined by Matthew, Sahara’s Supported Independent Living & Community Participant, the event proved to be a powerful platform for sharing personal stories and rallying the community in the fight against cancer.
The morning tea began with a deeply moving speech from Grace Eu, who shared her own poignant experience with cancer. Grace recounted the pivotal moment during her college years when her parents revealed that her mother had been diagnosed with breast cancer. Despite the weight of the news, Grace’s parents made a brave decision: to shield their daughters from excessive worry and disruption. They encouraged Grace and her sister to continue their daily routines while assuring them of their unwavering love and support.
Gratitude filled the room as Grace reflected on her mother’s remarkable journey. Today, her mother celebrates 22 years of remission, witnessing the cherished milestones of her daughters’ lives. This inspiring testament to the strength and resilience of cancer survivors serves as a poignant reminder that not all families are as fortunate. We stand united in their unwavering commitment to supporting the Cancer Council’s mission and raising awareness of the vital work they do.
The event brought together our head office staff, dedicated support workers, and participants, fostering a sense of solidarity and empathy. As they indulged in delicious food and engaging conversation, attendees shared stories about their loved ones who have battled cancer. This collective experience served as a powerful reminder that cancer touches the lives of countless individuals and families, making the need for support and understanding all the more essential.
By hosting Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea, we wanted to exemplify our dedication to making a tangible difference in the lives of those affected by cancer. As the morning tea drew to a close, its impact reverberated throughout the room. The event served as a powerful reminder of the profound effect cancer has on individuals and families, while also highlighting the strength that arises from collective support.
